Taco Tuesday at Teocali

Teocali is located at 2512 Holmes Street, KC, MO

$1 Tacos (just beef)

Delicious. These tacos are just juicy enough. The shells are the perfect size so that you can put an almost half meat, half lettuce, small tomato slices and some cheese in (I opt out of sour cream) your mouth. The meat wasn’t spicy (downfall), but they put in quite a bit for a dollar.

The shell was super crispy and the lettuce was fresh and crunch. The lettuce was falling out, but not enough to be like “WTF, what a waste of lettuce”. Small tomato slices were a great addition to this taco. The bite ratio was perfect to where you got the same amount of beef and lettuce with each bite. Just the way I expect them to be.

The only other downfall of this place was that you have to pay for the salsa, but from what I remember about it, it was spicy and added a lot of substance with the taco. If you want the full experience, you need to get the salsa with it, but if you don’t like spicy, then you are good to go with just the tacos.

Taco Tuesday at Ricos Tacos Lupes

Ricos Tacos Lupes is located at 802 Southwest Blvd, KC, MO

Special: $1 street tacos
Street tacos with 6 or 7 different choices

First walk in, I didn't think much of the place. Just a little place that could only fit about 30 people tops. I sat down and they brought some salsa and chips to me. Ordered immediately because I know what I am there for.

Went with a variety, because why not? I noticed people getting up to get little plastic cups filled with salsa, so I figured I would follow suit and went for it. Walked up to the counter that had 4 different salsas on there ranging from habenero hot to mild. You can't go wrong with any one of these.

Got the tacos and damn did they look good. Packed with meat and the perfect amount of chopped onions (to me at least). They were soft shell, double layered because they were so juicy. They didn't fall apart when you bit into them. The juice was just dripping out the bottom. Just typing this is making my mouth water.

Each salsa went perfect with each and every meat. Didn't matter what type of combo you chose.

I have never been a fan of street tacos, but the more I eat them, the more I enjoy them. I have gone back three times since my first time trying these and each time was better than the last.

Something I usually don't mention is the alcohol. This place has a BYOB policy!! There is a gas station across the street if you forget :)

Taco Tuesday at KC Smoke Burger

KC Smoke Burger is located at 1610 West 39th Street. KC, MO

Special: 99 cent soft Tacos

Let me preface by saying that I love KC Smoke Burger burgers, fries, hot dogs and Phillys (those are what I have tried there).

That being said....
There is a reason these are just 99 cents...

There was a choice between chicken and beef and I got two of both. They were both extremely greasy with not much filling and the salsa was just terrible. I expected them to be decently spicy with how their fries are, but there wasn't any of that... not even a hint. They should have thrown the spice into the meat to give it some extra kick since the salsa added 0 to the concoction.

I expected a lot out of these tacos since they have a huge sign up front about them, but I guess you can't be good at everything.

(Sorry, no picture for this one... This was visited before I thought about starting a blog)

Taco Tuesday at Fuzzy's Taco Shop

Fuzzy's Taco Shop is at 10157 Wornall Road, KC, MO, 64114

Special: 3 tacos for $5
6, 7, or 8 (can't remember) choices of tacos

The greatest thing about this special is the variety of taco choices. You have like 6, 7 or 8 different tacos to choose from, and you could make any one of them soft or hard shell. I went with hard shell Shrimp, shredded beef and chicken.

Received the tacos and they were appealing to the eyes (make you lick your lips in anticipation kind of appealing) with the overflow of lettuce and the size of the taco shells themselves (see below).

They provide the salsa (nice and spicy), which is also a plus in my book. Nothing grinds my gears more than having to purchase the salsa!

First taco: Bit into the shrimp one and I honestly didn’t know what kind of taco it was until over half way through when I pulled one out with the front of my teeth. There was no flavor at all to the taco besides the cheese and salsa. It was a terrible taco (may have been my fault for getting a shrimp taco... you tell me).

The second was shredded beef. There was a decent amount of beef and it was juicy, just like a slow cooked meat.

The third was the best, the chicken. There was about the same amount of meat as the beef one, but there is just something about chicken that gets me. I love the stuff.

A huge qualm I had with these tacos was that I didn’t like how tall the taco shells where (yes, I said they looked aesthetically pleasing earlier, but eating them is a different story). I can take pretty big bites of food, but I found myself either just biting the top of the taco with no meat or the bottom part that had no lettuce or other ingredients. I resorted to taking two bites in one mouthful, which is something I don’t have to do at other taco joints. All in all, I don’t think I will go back due to the lack of meat to lettuce/shell ratio.

Taco Tuesday at Cancun Fiesta Fresh

My first ranking goes to Cancun Fiesta Fresh in Westport.

Special: $1 tacos
Choice between chicken or beef hard tacos.

These aren’t anything special. You get just enough beef in your bite to quench your meat fetish, but then you want the lettuce, cheese and sauce right? Well, you get that more than anything. There is a metric ton of cheese on these bad boys with very little lettuce, which wasn’t even good lettuce (it was thick and chunky). The tacos were hard, but they were as fragile as my ex-girlfriend the week after her dog died. When I bit into them, I always seemed to take another huge chunk of the shell with me, which has never happened before at any other place I have tried.

The chicken taco had chunks of chicken, not shredded bits. It was rough going with the chicken because you weren’t quite sure where one piece ended and the next began. You could take out half the meat in the taco in one bite without even attempting to do so. The “saving grace” of this place is the sauce. There are 4 choices (mild, hot, super hot and verde) which were all great. I went with mild and hot and both were chunky and delicious with both taco types. All in all, I enjoyed them simply because they were cheap tacos, but there was nothing to keep me running back (will probably go steal some salsa for a different Taco Tuesday though)

My Score: 6/10

If you have any place you would like me to try, leave me a comment or tweet me. Otherwise, I will be back next week with another Kansas City Taco Tuesday.

Introduction

Welcome to my KC Taco Tuesday blog!

Over the past couple months, my taste buds have changed drastically. First, I started to like spicy things like Sriracha and hot sauce and then I started to broaden my horizons with other foods. One thing I was never a fan of in my infancy up until college was tacos (mainly the lettuce part). Not sure what it was about... maybe the color... maybe it was the texture. Anyways, long story short, I like almost everything I try nowadays, including lettuce!

That is when I went to my first Taco Tuesday in Kansas City. I will always remember the crunchy with the spice, lettuce, meat and dancing in my seat to a mariachi band. I was hooked. Since then, I have gone to a new Taco Tuesday nearly every week and enjoyed every second of it. I have pictures, scores, breakdowns of the meat, spices, etc...

This is my blog about those KC Taco Tuesdays. Enjoy!
